A new non-profit art gallery, Good News Only, opened recently at 5604 N Ridge.  The mission of Good News Only is to teach local youth how to manage a fine art gallery and thus build their critical thinking and work-study skills, to unite various socio-economic groups in the community, and to develop public art around Chicago.

A unique after school program is offered for local teenagers that focuses on the business and curatorial sides of the industry.  Students in this program will not be creating art, however they will be encouraged to develop art exhibitions at the gallery or in neighborhood public spaces.

The inaugural exhibit is entitled: Here, Not Here. The title was inspired by the journeys many Edgewater residents have experienced as they emigrated to the United States and reminds us of the passage of time, memories and mindfulness. Works by Curtis Mann, Rosalind Solomon, Zoe Strauss, Tri Luu and Nathan Lyons are included in the exhibit. An interactive piece is displayed on the opposite wall of the gallery with the intention of engaging visitors – the public is invited to think about a range of questions about art and write answers on the wall. The piece will expand and grow as more people are involved.

The hours of the gallery are 1pm – 6pm, Tuesday through Friday and by appointment on the weekends.  For more info, visit: http://gnonly.com/about.html
